Imagine Communications was among the most visible and impactful companies at the 2015 NAB Show. By nearly every measure, the media industry stalwart stood out from the more than 200 exhibitors at this year’s conference and exhibition.

Deployment Firsts

The ability of Imagine Communications’ solutions to solve both today’s and tomorrow’s video infrastructure, advertising management systems and workflow management requirements was clearly on display in Las Vegas last week. Clark Media, a provider of HD mobile trucks and broadcast equipment, was so enamored of the Imagine Communications Platinum IP3 router’s ability to deliver state-of-the-art live production capabilities that it signed a purchase agreement on the show floor.

A few days earlier, Imagine Communications unveiled a groundbreaking deployment with Disney/ABC Television Group for next-generation IP and cloud architecture. News that the media icon was working with Imagine Communications to fulfill its ongoing mission to move production, master control and distribution operations to IP unsurprisingly attracted international media coverage and prominent placement in the NAB Show Daily News.

Thought Leadership

Imagine Communications executives anchored several NAB presentation and panel discussions concerning the state of the industry and next-generation technology and trends, including the day-two Super Session Television’s Transition to an All-IP Future — Why It’s a Big Deal. The 90-minute forum also featured industry visionaries from Disney/ABC, Fox and TVU Networks. Imagine Communications CEO Charlie Vogt’s comments about the relevance of the Disney/ABC deployment to the momentum of IP in the broadcast medium were captured in a front-page account of the panel discussion in the NAB Show DailyNews:

“When you see one of the most iconic brands in the world moving to a virtualized cloud so they can take advantage of much greater opportunities in the future, you see why this is such a big thing.”

Demonstrations and Awards

The Imagine Communications booth generated a near-constant buzz in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Throngs of NAB visitors took in a dozen or so separate demonstration from Imagine Communications and partners, including HP, IBM, Microsoft and Verizon Digital Video Services. Among the products, platforms and solutions highlighted were the company’s cloud video platform, cloud playout, TV Everywhere, Software-defined Workflow management, baseband routing, signal processing, advanced advertising and cloud-based traffic and billing.

Imagine Communications’ LandmarkOSI™ Sales 8.0 advertising proposal and research system was the recipient of a NewBay Media Best of Show Award presented by TV Technology. Judges recognized the cloud-based platform for its ability to dramatically improve the efficiency and effectiveness of media company sales professionals.

NAB Firsts

Imagine Communications was already making NAB headlines before the show had officially opened. The company hosted an invitation-only event, ImagineLIVE, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino that attracted nearly 2,000 people.

A mix of information and entertainment that was capped by a performance by the super group Foreigner, the event featured presentations from Imagine Communications’ Vogt and Chief Technology Officer Steve Reynolds, as well as Disney/ABC Television Group CTO Vince Roberts. The evening also included a panel discussion among executives from industry-leading media companies moderated by television personality Deborah Norville.

Disney is taking the future by the horns in a new technology partnership, announced at the start of NAB this week. Disney is teaming up with Imagine Communications to move its linear broadcast operations into a cloud-based system. The deal was announced at Imagine Communications’ press event at NAB.

One of the evangelists of the IP movement is Charlie Vogt, the CEO of Imagine Communications.  Imagine and the others are not forcing stations to take a leap into IP. They are providing a path that will allow them to get there gradually as their capital budgets and technology replacement cycles allow. Technology is not always about saving money. Sometimes, as Vogt said, you have to invest in the latest just to remain competitive.
