Next-gen IP-based infrastructure optimises migration strategies and provides flexibility to generate cost and operational benefits for media companies

At Inter BEE 2018 (Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, 14 – 16 November), Imagine Communications is demonstrating practical innovation and migration strategies that enable media companies to personalise the path and pace of their transition to next-generation architectures and business models. Imagine is showcasing its latest innovations at the IABM Pavilion (stand no. 8103), as well as in association with local technical partners Sanshin Electronics Company (stand no. 3501) and Digital Processing Systems Japan (stand no. 2114) and local reseller Village Island (stand no. 7607).

On Imagine’s IABM stand, visitors will experience standards-based, software-defined solutions that enable media companies to leverage their existing infrastructure and maintain workflow integrity in a hybrid environment, while transitioning to an all-IP future. Highlights include the award-winning Selenio™ Network Processor (SNP), a high-density, all-IP-capable processing platform that enables media organisations to simplify operations and reduce costs associated with supporting SDI and hybrid SDI-IP workflows in their studio and mobile facilities. Working in conjunction with the Magellan™ SDN Orchestrator software control, the SNP demonstration will showcase how customers can easily manage and control their legacy infrastructure, while seamlessly incorporating next-gen technologies, switching and interworking between HD, Ultra HD and uncompressed real-time SMPTE ST 2110 streams.

Imagine will also demonstrate its software-based EPIC™ MV multiviewer, the only solution that enables operators to monitor mixed signal types on a single canvas. Scalable to thousands of PiPS and hundreds of displays, EPIC MV offers media organisations a high-quality, low-TCO monitoring solution for both hybrid and all-IP environments.

With technology partner Sanshin Electronics Company, Imagine is demonstrating innovation that enables media providers to cost-effectively launch new channels and experiment with emerging business models, while also maintaining their primary revenue streams. Highlights include Imagine’s industry-first, microservices-based Versio™ Platform, which enables media organisations to create a custom playout solution that truly fits their needs, accelerate the launch of new services to unlock revenue potential, and adapt more quickly to market dynamics.

Imagine will also demonstrate various transition scenarios for migrating from traditional to next-generation playout operations at a pace that works for each individual customer. For example, media companies using Imagine’s widely adopted, industry-proven ADC™ automation or Nexio+™ servers can continue on their platform of choice, while layering in new features and capabilities that the Versio platform offers. As customers seek more flexibility in deployment platforms, move to standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) infrastructure, or consider datacenter-based or cloud-ready operations, Imagine offers multiple transition paths for seamlessly migrating ADC and Nexio+ customers to Versio Platform.

In conjunction with Digital Processing Systems, Imagine is demonstrating the SelenioFlex™ File media processing solution, which enables media companies to improve operational efficiency by blending transcoding and workflow capabilities into a single platform with an easy-to-use interface. Built on Imagine’s Zenium™ pure microservices architecture, SelenioFlex File is an agile software engine that provides customers the flexibility to customise their system architectures and more efficiently manage the dynamic environment of run-time, decision-based media processing workflows.

In association with Village Island, Imagine is demonstrating advanced ad tech solutions that enable media companies to take advantage of recent changes in Japanese broadcasting law, allowing the delivery of live OTT services based on linear broadcasts. Imagine’s state-of-the-art dynamic ad insertion solutions enable media companies to individually target advertising and content replacement in linear OTT and VoD services, while its unique HTTP-to-UDP gateway extends DAI to allow regional delivery of traditional linear broadcasting using Internet infrastructure.

“This is a very exciting time for the whole media industry, and especially for Japan with the Olympics less than two years away,” said Mathias Eckert, SVP and GM EMEA and APAC, Playout & Networking, at Imagine Communications. “Imagine’s presence at Inter BEE this year is focused on practical, proven solutions at every point in the delivery chain, and in the value chain, ensuring that our users can efficiently meet their viewers’ expectations and maximise their revenues.”
